Charles Dale Memorial International School (CDMIS) is the
secondary school arm of Bereton Montessori Nursery and
Primary School located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. As
part of Bereton Montessori School’s 25th anniversary in
September 2003, the Management of the school decided to take
a further step to achieve its goals by further training
pupils to secondary school level. Parents were concerned
about the future of their children/wards since it is without
doubt that there are not enough Secondary schools of
International standard in Rivers State and the Niger Delta
sub-region. They had to travel to other parts of Nigeria in
order to get high standard secondary schools, which they
desire.
Charles Dale Memorial International School is named after
Late Mr. Charles Ernest Dale, a renowned British
Educationist who contributed greatly to education in
Nigeria. Late Mr. Charles E. Dale is the father of the
School’s founder, Chief (Mrs.) Victoria O. R. Diete-Spiff.
This honour was to commemorate the 40th Memorial of his
death in 2004 with laying of the foundation stone of the
school on 25th May, 2004.
Construction of the school’s state-of -the-art facilities
went on for two years to achieve an Administrative building,
Modern Classrooms, Science laboratories, Workshops, ICT room
with internet access, Art rooms, Music studio, Sport field,
Library, Student hostels, Staff residence, Principal’s
residence, Clinic and Dining hall.
Charles Dale opened fully for operations on 30th September,
2006 with 14 teaching and 7 non-teaching staff and 32
students comprising of 20 boys and 12 girls, which grew to a
total of 38 students by April 2007.
As at September 2007, the student population grew favourably
to 149 students ranging between Years 7 to 9 with our
classes still maintained at a maximum of 25. This indicates
a 366% growth within 12 months. We have progressively grown
to 237 as at January 2009. We give all glory to the Almighty
God.
We run an International curriculum which is based on both
the Nigerian and British curricula. In Year 9 students will
sit for the NECO Junior Secondary School Examinations (JSCE).
At the end of the Senior school, students will sit for the
Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE). We are
accredited as a Cambridge Centre for the Cambridge Lower
Secondary Programme and Cambridge Checkpoint tests in the
Year 9 and the Cambridge IGCSE in Year 12.
